A month ago, we unlocked the doors, switched on the heater and wondered who would walk in.
We’d spent months planning, building and imagining what YOU Sauna might feel like. But nothing really prepared us for the moment it filled with people, laughter and that first hiss of steam. Here are five things that have stayed with us so far.
1. The cold plunge brings out everyone’s personality
Some people walk straight in like it’s a warm bath. Others stand at the edge, take a deep breath, count to three, then count to three again. And some decide it’s not for them today, which is completely fine too.
Watching everyone find their own way has been one of our favourite things. There’s no right way to do this. Your session is yours to enjoy however you like.
2. Everyone arrives with a story
Some people come for an hour of peace in a busy week. Others turn up with a friend, a partner or a whole group, ready for a proper catch-up. We’ve heard about new jobs, long runs, little ones keeping parents up all night, and plans for the weekend.
Those conversations, in the heat or over a drink in the lounge afterwards, have quickly become the best part of our day.
3. Getting to know our local community
We always wanted YOU Sauna to feel like a proper neighbourhood place, and Hitchin has made that so easy. Neighbours popping in after work, friends making it their weekly catch-up, people from just down the road who’d walked past for weeks before finally coming in.
It’s been brilliant getting to know Hitchin’s sporty side too. Runners warming up after a cold morning out, footballers easing off after a match, gym regulars swapping training stories in the heat. If you’re part of a local club or team and fancy coming down together, we’d love to hear from you. Our door is very much open.
4. It’s the little things people remember
A friendly hello at the door. A quick tip before someone’s first plunge. Someone passing a towel without being asked. These small moments seem to matter more than anything else.
We’ve learned that how a place feels matters just as much as how it looks. We want you to walk in and feel at home straight away.
5. We’re learning as we go, and you’re helping
Running a new place means figuring things out as we go. Your feedback, questions and ideas have already shaped how we do things, and we’re grateful for every one of them. Keep them coming.
Thank you
To everyone who has visited, brought a friend, left a kind review or simply said hello: thank you. You’ve helped turn an empty unit on Wilbury Way into somewhere that already feels alive.
This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to see you again soon.
Sauna. Plunge. Reset.
