Your first visit to YOU Sauna Hitchin: what to actually expect
If you've never been to a dedicated sauna and cold plunge space before, it's completely normal to have questions. Where do I park, what do I wear, what if I hate the cold plunge. So here's the practical, straightforward version: everything you need to know before your first visit to 45 Knowl Piece.
Where we are
YOU Sauna Hitchin is based at 45 Knowl Piece, Wilbury Way, Hitchin, SG4 0TY, on the industrial estate just outside the town centre. We’re only a short drive or cycle from most of Hitchin, with free parking directly outside and a small cycle rack for bicycles. No circling for a space and no parking meters to feed.
What will your first visit look like?
When you arrive, we’ll be there to welcome you. You can leave your shoes on the rack before we show you around and explain how everything works.
Our changing rooms and showers are upstairs. Once you’re ready, come back downstairs and settle in. You can relax in the lounge with a coffee or refreshing drink before beginning your sauna and cold-plunge experience.
There’s no pressure to rush or follow a strict routine. Move between the sauna, cold plunges and lounge at your own pace. If you’d rather relax, listen to music or read a book for a while, that’s completely fine too. Our longer YOU Restore sessions give you extra time to slow down and enjoy the whole space.
We’ll always be nearby and happy to answer questions or help you feel comfortable.
How to book
All sessions are booked online in advance through our booking system. There's no turning up and hoping for a space, because we deliberately keep sessions small. Capacity is capped at 8 to 10 people per session, so it never feels crowded, and you're never queuing for the plunge. Book ahead through yousaunahitchin.co.uk, choose your session type and time, and you're set.
Choosing your first session
There are a few options, but for a first visit, keep it simple.
Reset (45 minutes, £18 drop in): heat, cold, done. The most popular starting point.
Restore (90 minutes, £30 drop in): the longer version, more rounds, more time to settle.
Silent (45 minutes): the same format, no conversation expected. Good if you want to switch off completely rather than socialise.
Women or Men only (45 minutes): for anyone who'd feel more comfortable in a women or men only group.
If you were one of the first people to join our email list, you can enjoy your first 45-minute sessions for just £10. It’s a relaxed, low-pressure way to try the sauna and cold plunge without committing to anything further.

What to bring
Swimwear, you'll need it for both the sauna and the cold plunge. Two towels: one for sitting on in the sauna, one for drying off. A water bottle, because hydration matters more than people expect, both before and after heat exposure. Flip flops or slides, if you'd rather not go barefoot between rooms.
What actually happens during a session
Arrive around 5–10 minutes before your session to get changed and ready. You’ll usually begin with a sauna round of around 10–15 minutes, although it’s entirely up to you when you step out.
From there, you can move into the cold plunge for a short dip—perhaps a minute or less if you’re new to it. Nobody is timing you, and there’s no pressure to stay in longer than feels comfortable. Take a few minutes to rest, then repeat the cycle if you wish. Most people enjoy two or three rounds of heat, cold and rest.
We offer two dedicated session lengths:
YOU Reset | 45 minutes — ideal for a quick refresh during a busy day.
YOU Restore | 90 minutes — gives you more time for sauna and cold-water rounds or simply to slow down, enjoy a book, chat or listen to music in the lounge.
You can finish however feels right: with a final sauna round, a cold plunge or some quiet time in the lounge. Afterwards, you can shower and enjoy a coffee or alcohol-free refreshment while you let the experience settle before heading back into your day.
A few honest tips for first timers
Don't arrive straight from a heavy meal, and go easy on caffeine and alcohol beforehand. Both make the heat harder to tolerate. Hydrate properly, both before you come and after you leave. And genuinely: listen to your body. There's no prize for staying in longer than feels good, and stepping out early is completely normal, not a failure. If you have any cardiac, respiratory or circulatory concerns, or you're pregnant, check with your doctor first and let our team know when you arrive.
What if I don't want to do the cold plunge?
You don't have to. Some people build up to it over a few visits, some prefer a cool shower instead, and that's entirely fine. This is meant to be your reset, on your terms, not a challenge to prove anything.
Ready to book your first session?
Bookings open from 21 September 2026, when our soft launch begins. Sessions may fill quickly, so we recommend booking ahead rather than leaving it until the day.
